EMMERSON NOGUEIRA - BEATLES (2004) REPOST

Emmerson Oliveira Nogueira was born in Belo Horizonte on September 23, 1972. He is a Brazilian singer, violinist, composer and music producer. He became internationally known for his project “Versão Acústica”, which brings together reinterpretations of international pop and rock classics.

He began to get involved with music at the age of 14. At the same time, he tried to become a cartoonist, but gave up when he realized that he really wanted to be a musician.

He participated in several festivals in partnership with composers from his city and region, winning many of them, notably two editions of Canta Minas, promoted by Rede Globo de Televisão Minas. In 1994, he won with the song Mar de Mariana, by Pedro Paulo Mendes. In 1995, he won with the song Fim de Todas Canções, which he composed himself.

In 2000, he moved to Rio de Janeiro and signed a contract with the record label Sony Music to work, initially, as a composer. In 2001, Emmerson Nogueira released his first album on the same label, under the project Versão Acústica.

This first album featured covers of renowned international rock artists and bands, such as Supertramp, Pink Floyd, The Police, Eric Clapton and Joe Cocker, and sold over 100,000 copies within a few months of its release.

He continued with the project and, by 2010, had released nine other albums and two DVDs on Sony Music, all of which were awarded Gold Records and some Platinum Records.

In 2008, Emmerson built the Versão Acústica Studio, and in 2012, in partnership with Sony Music Brasil, he created “Versão Acústica Records”. In 2014, he released his first original album, with songs written by himself and by São João composer Paulinho Cri (1954 - 2012), to whom Emmerson dedicates the work.

The album in this post was released in Brazil in 2004 by Sony Music, with the Columbia label, with an excellent tribute to the Beatles and contains the following songs:

02. You’ve got to hide your love away;

JOHN BASILE - PENNY LANE (2015) REPOST

When asked about his most important influences, the first two names he mentions are not other guitar players; Frank Sinatra heads the list and then Bill Evans.

Perhaps this explains why John Basile is one of a select group of jazz instrumentalists who doesn’t sound like everyone else. He particularly likes to play in the duo and trio formats to exploit the intimacy those settings present for both player and listener.

Musically, his guitar style utilizes a finger-style technique that approaches the guitar like a piano. For John, the challenge of comping harmonic chord fragments and playing melodies simultaneously provides a backdrop for a more open style of playing and improvising.

His labels, Underhill Jazz and now StringTime Jazz, have produced five innovative and critically distinguished releases: "Amplitudes" - solo guitar improvisations; "No Apologies" - featuring Pat Bianchi on organ and Carmen Intorre on drums for a soulful organ trio with a modern approach to unique standards; "Time Will Reveal" - featuring Joe Locke on vibes and Bassist David Finck showcasing a modern jazz guitar approach to pop tunes;  "Animations" – with John Ambercrombie in duo with Basile exploring the essence of string improvisations of standards and originals; and "It Was A Very Good Year" – an eclectic exploration of jazz, folk, and pop tunes featuring two trios.

Summer 2015 saw the release of "Penny Lane" a jazz guitar collection of Beatles tunes on StringTime Jazz and John's latest is a collection of eclectic originals entitled "Outside/In" available now on iTunes and CD Baby.

Guitar icon Jim Hall said “John Basile’s playing has the essence of great jazz guitar: beautiful tone, marvelous swing, terrific technique, and excellent phrasing.

You can’t ask for more!” Legendary guitarist, John Abercrombie when referring to John's "No Apologies" organ trio project exclaimed, “John’s new CD has one of the most appropriate titles! Great Playing, Great Tunes, Great Sound…"No Apologies" needed!”

John Basile is a formidable, sought after educator and clinician, offering a variety of educational outreach programs to colleges and universities here and around the world.

He also works in the field of radiology and manages a large Medical Group in the NY area and is professional boxing judge with the NYS Athletic Commision. John has judged championship fights at Madison Square Garden, the Barclay center in NY, and in Mexico.

LUIS ALVAREZ - BEATLES EN VIOLIN (2012) REPOST

Luis Alvarez is a musical arranger and a great violinist, who expresses the music he plays in a very sensitive way. His talent comes from birth, as his father was already a violinist, Don Lorenzo Alvarez, known as the romantic violinist Assunção.

Luis Alvarez graduated in 1972 from the Conservatory of Music as a violin teacher. He was a member of the Asuncion City Symphony Orchestra – OSCA, for more than a decade and the Charitas Radio Chamber Orchestra, led by Floetin Gimenez and Luiz Szaran.

In 1983, he began his career as an arranger of popular music for Paraguayan artists, such as Vocal Dois, Namandu, Lizza Bogado Generation Group, Grupo Surgente, Pearl, Jorge Castro, Grupo Contraponto, Juan Cancio Barreto, Horacio Guarany, Oscar Gomez, among others.

With Berta Rojas and Juan Cancio Barreto he was responsible for the album “Guitar in”, which was highly praised internationally in the United States. He also performed several shows at festivals and local television.
