OS ANOS DE BEATLEMANIA - VOLUMES 1 E 2 - VÁRIOS (1997) REPOST

I believe that Beatles songs are the most covered by other musicians and bands on the planet. Undoubtedly, in the 1960s and 1970s, they played a very important role in influencing the "Jovem Guarda" movement, as well as in Brazilian rock, which would soon emerge, having its peak in the 1980s.

In this post, the rescue is due to the versions and reinterpretations of Beatles songs. At that time Renato Barros was the greatest versionist of Beatles songs. There were also others, such as: Leno (Gileno), Lilian (Lilian Knapp), Paulo César Barros, Lisma Dantas, Antony Middelton, Fernando Adour, Carlos Wallace, Regina Correa, among others.

In 1997, three volumes of compilations of some songs recorded at the time of Jovem Guarda were released in Brazil by the CBS label, now Sony, with the Columbia label. The selection of repertoire and production was made by the great researcher and producer Marcelo Fróes.

Also noteworthy are the beautiful covers illustrated by Frederico Mendes. So we took the opportunity and posted a "2 in 1" disc, containing the songs from volumes 1 and 2, so that friends of the blog can enjoy them.

In this post, I present the album “Os Anos da Beatlemania – Volume 3”, released in Brazil, in 1997, by the Columbia label, which was part of a trilogy.

Volume 3 contains 12 original songs, performed by Brazilian artists, such as Renato & Seus Blue Caps, Ed Wilson, Lafayette, Os Rubis, The Spokes, The G/9 Group, Orquestra Serenata Tropical, Madrugada & Seu Conjunto, Os Rubis, Super Quentes, Márcio Greick and Leroy Martin Orchestra.

Following the same tune as the album selection, to complete the blog LaplayaBeatles is including 13 more bonus songs, with the participation of Ronnie Von, Brazilian Bitles, Marcio Greick, Nalva Aguiar and Golden Boys & The Fevers.

LAFAYETTE - OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DOS BEATLES (2022)

The musician and keyboardist Lafayette was born in March 1943 and died in March 2021. At the age of five he began his musical training at the National Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro.

With the emergence of rock and roll, he joined the group “The Blue Jeans Rockers”, which was responsible for the first instrumental rock recorded in Brazil. Along with him in the song Here is the blue jeans rockers were the future Luizinho e Seus Dinamites, Luizinho (electric guitar) and Euclides (guitar).

Lafayette's keyboards contributed decisively to building the sound identity of the Jovem Guarda movement in Brazil. His presence is unmistakable in several classic songs by the movement's main idols, since his debut in the song Terror dos Namorados, from Erasmo Carlos' first album, released in May 1965.

He also plays the organ in the song Quero que tudo pro inferno, recorded by Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos, which marked the genre forever. A kind of 'trademark' of the Jovem Guarda.

Despite this, the keyboardist does not have due recognition, given the extent, quality and influence of his work, especially during the period of the Jovem Guarda movement.

He recorded numerous albums, with emphasis on the series called “Lafayette Presents His Successes”. This series reached dozens of issues in its heyday, from the late 1960s to 1970s.

Most of his albums remain unreleased, in digital format on Compact Disc-Cd, with only a few timid official compilations re-released, one of which only features hits and classics by singer Roberto Carlos. What was popular in the recent past has become cult in modern times.

In this post I pay tribute to Lafayette by presenting a compilation of Beatles greatest hits, organized by the blog LaPlayaMusic, never officially released.

MANFREDO FEST TRIO - OS SAMBEATLES (1966) REPOST

Manfredo Fest was a Brazilian jazz and bossa nova instrumentalist, composer and arranger. He was born on May 13, 1938, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and died on October 8, 1999, in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA.

He was visually impaired and learned to read sheet music using the Braille Method. A jazz lover, he was interested from an early age in the music of Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson and George Shearing.

In the city of Porto Alegre, he organized several groups, performing at parties, meetings and balls. In 1961, he graduated as a pianist from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. That year, he moved to São Paulo, where he met musicians linked to bossa nova. In São Paulo, he formed his first trio, performing in famous nightclubs such as Baiúca, Hotel Jaraguá and Cabridge Hotel.

He recorded his first album Long Playing-LP in 1962, including songs of his own, such as Eu sou feliz, with Lili Fest. In the following years, he recorded two more albums, the second with songs by Edu Lobo, Durval Ferreira, Baden Powell and Vera Brasil.

In 1965, he recorded Beatles hits in a samba rhythm on an album and, in the following year, he released Alma Brasileira. Invited by Sérgio Mendes, he acted as arranger and keyboardist for the group Brasil 66. In the recording of this tribute album, the trio's formation was: Manfred Fest (piano), Matias (bass) and Humberto Guy (drums)

He settled in Los Angeles (USA), where he began to research a mix of Brazilian jazz and samba. He formed a new trio and participated in the opening shows for the Brasil 66 presentations, recording several albums produced by Sérgio Mendes.

He left the group in 1970. He then formed new groups, including Batucada. In 1976, he released an LP album on his own label, which included his song Jungle cat. In 1992, he paid tribute to pianist Oscar Peterson with the song A blues for Oscar, recorded on an independent album.

From the following year, he began to record for the Concord label (USA), releasing four discs in Compact Disc format - CDs with instrumental versions of Caminhos cruzados, by Tom Jobim and Newton Mendonça, Passarim, by Tom Jobim, Ivan Lins and Vítor Martins, Amazonas, by João Donato, Over the rainbow, by Harold Arlen and Harburg and Summertime, by George and Ira Gershwin and Du Bose Heyward.

In 1996, he toured Germany and Denmark, accompanied by his son Phill Fest on guitar and Hendrik Mevrkens on harmonica, recording his most recent work with them. Two years later, he recorded on CD, live, his performance at Vartan Live Jazz, in Denver (Colorado), re-recording songs of his own.

LUISINHO MAGALHÃES - INTERPRETA CANÇÕES DOS BEATLES

The post of the day features the album "Interpreta Canções dos Beatles", by Luisinho Magalhães. The album was released in Brazil in 2011 by Esfinge Records.

Luisinho Magalhães began his musical career in 1965, in Ceará, performing solo guitar themes by the musician Dilermando Reis. His musical influence gradually shifted towards British music in the 1960s, especially the Beatles.

Taking advantage of the wave he formed his first group called "Os Faraós", playing on guitar the music of the young guard that was in force at the time.

In the 1970s, with the dissolution of the group "Os Faraós" and the trend towards the "disco" rhythm, Luisinho formed the group "Vôo Livre". With this formation they performed several great shows, with an audience of up to 12,000 people.

After a break in the music scene, Luisinho Magalhães returned in 1983, in the voice and guitar version, playing in bars and restaurants until he formed the group "Luisinho Magalhães & Banda". It is currently an orchestra formed by 13 musicians.

In this line-up, the band plays different styles from different eras covering an audience of events and clubs. For several years it was elected the best dance band in Ceará and the best band of the golden years. It was also awarded the II Nelsons Music Award, as the best performing band of the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

ED MACIEL - OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DOS BEATLES (2021)

Last weekend, listening to a compilation by Brazilian musician Ed Maciel, I noticed that he performed several Beatles songs over seven albums. Based on this, I decided to put together a compilation of these songs.

Ed Maciel was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on January 21, 1927 and died on August 4, 2011. His best moment in his career occurred precisely in the years 1966 and 1967, when he released the albums of the series “Na Onda ”, on the Odeon record label, which had a dancing rhythm, interpreted radio hit songs and appealed to lovers of instrumental music.

He came from a family of musicians or, more accurately, trombonists. His father and at least two of his brothers continued playing the trombone and his brother Edson, the youngest, participated in recordings of their albums.

With an erudite background, upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro, he became a conductor, arranger, orchestra leader and was the first trombonist of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.

Practically, he played with almost all the great names of Música Popular Brasileira. The selection of songs that make up this compilation contains the following songs:

EXPÓSITO E SUA ORQUESTRA - OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DOS BEATLES (2021)

In June 2020, I posted a single (EP) by the Orquestra Namorados do Caribe containing 4 Beatles hits, which was released in Brazil in 1966 by RCA Victor.

Some time later, checking other Brazilian orchestras, I noticed that several of them also recorded tracks by the quartet The Beatles.

So, I had the idea to select the recordings of these orchestras. To start with, I present six orchestrated songs recorded by the Argentinean conductor Expósito & Sua Orquestra, which were released in Brazil, on several albums, by the record label RCA Victor.

Maestro Virgílio Hugo Expósito was born on May 3, 1924, in the city of Zárate, a province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and died on October 25, 1997.

The musician worked as an arranger and conductor throughout the 1960s, in the orchestras of the Brazilian record company RCA. In Brazil, he left a discography consisting of seven albums, including a Bossa Nova compilation, from 1963 to 1967.

ZONA FRANCA - INTERPRETA VERSÕES HISTÓRICAS DOS BEATLES (1994) REPOST

In response to requests, I re-present the rare album "Interpreta Historical Versions of the Beatles", by the studio group called Zona Franca.

This rare album was released in Brazil in 1994 by the Polygram label, under the Polydor label.

The formation of the Zona Franca group for recording this album consisted of Guggu (voice and choir), Fábio Barreto (drums and choir), Marcelo Cabral (bass and choir), Ricardo Candido (guitar, 12-string guitar and harmonica), Neném (12-string guitar and guitar) and Célio Bussai, on keyboards and choir).

It counted on the production and participation of Márcio Antonucci, former member of the duo "Os Vips", who acted in the Jovem Guarda movement, as well as the direction was up to Max Pierre.

The disc selection is made up of the following songs:

O SUBMARINO AMARELO - VOLUME 2 (2001) REPOST

Hello people. In this post, I present Volume 2, from the album entitled "O Submarino Verde e Amarelo", a Brazilian tribute to the Beatles. This album is a continuation of the Brazilian musical project of a charitable nature, whose funds were allocated to Aminca (Association of Friends of the National Cancer Institute).

The show for this volume was recorded live in Brazil, in 2000, at the ATL Hall, Rio de Janeiro, during the recording of the TV special for Canal Multishow.

 

In addition to the interpreters of the songs on the disc, the musicians who participated in the project for volume 2 were: Christiano Galvão (drums), Vinicius Sá (bass), Paulo Marconi (guitar), Filipe Freire (guitar and guitar), Marcos Nimrichter (piano) , Léo Brandão / Lourival Franco (keyboards) and Eugenio Dale / Emerson Ribeiro and Paulo Marconi (vocals).

 

The project consisted of the presentation of Beatles songs, performed by Brazilian artists, passionate by Beatles. The musical production fell to Aramis Barros and Vinicius Sá.

 

The album was commercially released in Brazil in 2001, by the Som Livre label, with the Multishow label and was composed by the following songs:

ORQUESTRA NAMORADOS DO CARIBE - OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DOS BEATLES (1966)

Among the various Beatles tribute singles I found one that presents the quartet's music in a bolero / salsa style. This is the EP of the Orquestra Namorados do Caribe, entitled "Os Grandes Sucessos dos Beatles".

There is little information on the network about the Orquestra Namorados do Caribe. But there are mentions that this orchestra was a studio orchestra by the record company RCA Victor and that it emerged as a marketing counterpoint to the Orquestra Românticos de Cuba, by maestro Severino Araújo, from the record company Musidisc.

Unfortunately, at that time it was common practice to not mention the musicians, nor the conductor of such records. In this particular case, I found information that the conductor of the Orquestra Namorados do Caribe was the conductor of Rio, hired by the record company RCA Victor Brasil.

The conductor, Carioca, whose name was Ivan Paulo Silva, was born in Taubaté, São Paulo and died in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He performed as in Brazil as an instrumentalist, trombonist, orchestrator and orchestra leader.

The double compact disc for this post was released in Brazil in 1966 by the label RCA Victor and contains the following Beatles songs:

EMMERSON NOGUEIRA - BEATLES (2004)

Emmerson Oliveira Nogueira nasceu em Belo Horizonte, no dia 23/setembro/1972. É cantor, violinista, compositor e produtor musical brasileiro. Tornou-se conhecido internacionalmente pelo seu projeto “Versão Acústica”, que reúne releituras de clássicos do pop e rock internacional.

Começou a se envolver com a música aos 14 anos de idade. Na mesma época, chegou a tentar carreira de desenhista, mas desistiu quando percebeu que queria mesmo a música. Participou de vários festivais em parceria com compositores de sua cidade e região, vencendo muitos deles, com destaque para duas edições do Canta Minas, promovido pela pela Rede Globo de Televisão Minas. Em 1994, foi vencedor com a música Mar de Mariana, de Pedro Paulo Mendes. Em 1995, foi com a com a música Fim de Todas Canções, de sua própria autoria.

Em 2000, mudou-se para o Rio de Janeiro e assinou contrato com a gravadora Sony Music para trabalhar, inicialmente, como compositor. Em 2001, Emmerson Nogueira lançou seu primeiro álbum por essa mesma gravadora, já com o projeto Versão Acústica.

Esse primeiro disco contou com releituras de artistas e bandas consagradas do Rock Internacional, tais como Supertramp, Pink Floyd, The Police, Eric Clapton e Joe Cocker, e atingiu a vendagem de mais de 100.000 cópias em alguns meses após o lançamento.

Seguiu em frente com o projeto e lançou, até o ano de 2010, outros nove álbuns e também dois Dvd’s, pela Sony Music, todos contemplados com Disco de Ouro e alguns também com Disco de Platina.

Em 2008, Emmerson construiu o Estúdio Versão Acústica, e em 2012, em parceria com a Sony Music Brasil, criou a “Versão Acústica Records”. Em 2014, lançou seu primeiro álbum autoral, com músicas de própria autoria e do compositor são-joanense Paulinho Cri (1954 - 2012), a quem Emmerson dedica o trabalho.

O álbum desta postagem, foi lançado no Brasil, em 2004, pela Sony Music, com o selo Columbia, com um excelente tributo aos Beatles e contém as seguintes canções:
