EDDIE MATHINE - MÚSICA NEW AGE - CON LOS EXITOS DE LOS BEATLES - VOLUME 1 (2000) REPOST

In this post I present an instrumental tribute in the New Age style. It is the album "Música New Age - Para Sientirse Bien - Con Los Exitos de Los Beatles - Volume 1", performed by the Argentine Eddie Mathine. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about this artist on the internet.

This album was released in Brazil in 2000, by the Inter CD Records label and distributed by Eldorado Fonográfica. In my opinion, as a Beatles fan, it is worth listening to their songs from a New Age perspective. It was cool.

The songs that make up the selection are the following:

01. Eleanor rigby;
02. You won't see me;
03. Norwegian wood;
04. Something;
05. With a little help of my friend;
06. Hey Jude;
07. Let it be;
08. A hard day's night;
09. Help;
10. All my loving.

GÜNTER NORIS - BEATLES ALBUM (1969)

To start the month of August, which the old ones said was the month of mad dogs, I present the tribute album "Beatles Album", by German musician Günter Noris, which was released in Germany, in 1969, by the label EMI/Columbia.

Conductor, pianist, arranger and composer Günter M. Noris, actually Günter Maier, was born on June 5, 1935, in Bad Kissingen, Lower Franconian and died on November 27, 2007, in Kerpen, North Rhine, Westphalia.

The son of a postman, he got in touch with music at an early age and learned piano and composition at the Bavarian State Conservatory in Würzburg. He financed his studies as a jazz musician, with performances in American clubs, as a member of the group Hep Cats.

After completing his studies, he continued to perform as a jazz musician with the Helmut Brandt group. In 1961, RIAS hired him as a pianist and assistant conductor for the RIAS Dance Orchestra in Berlin.

In 1966, Hildegard Knef made him the music director for her first tour. At that time he adopted the stage name of "Noris", after the "Villa Noris", in his hometown.

In 1967, he moved to Cologne to work as a pianist and arranger for the WDR Dance Orchestra. In 1968, he followed a successful tour of Japan and in 1970, WDR recorded the musical "Noris Pierre & Madeleine", starring René Kollo and Gitte Haenning.

In 1971, he founded the Big Band of the German Armed Forces, with which he also created the musical support program for the Munich Olympic Games (1972) and the 1974 World Cup in Germany. In 1983, he resigned from the Bundeswehr and founded his own band, the Gala Big Band, which focused on the typical "Noris sound".

From 1977 to 1996, Noris Günter, Hugo Strasser and Max Greger released 20 official dance records of the year for the General German Dance Teachers Association - ADTV. In 1995, ADTV named the Gala Big Band the "Best Dance Orchestra in the World".

Günter Noris performed around 2500 live performances in 15 countries in almost 40 years of his career. Proceeds from many of his concerts went to charity. President Richard Von Weizäcker personally presented him with the Federal Merit Cross.

In 2005, to mark his 70th birthday, former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Jürgen Rüttgers, honored him.

The following is the list of songs that make up the album of this post:

01. Lady madonna;
02. With a little help from my friends;
03. Bungalow Bill;
04. Ob-la-di, ob-la-da;

ED MACIEL - OS GRANDES SUCESSOS DOS BEATLES (2021)

Last weekend, listening to a compilation by Brazilian musician Ed Maciel, I noticed that he performed several Beatles songs over seven albums. Based on this, I decided to put together a compilation of these songs.

Ed Maciel was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on January 21, 1927 and died on August 4, 2011. His best moment in his career occurred precisely in the years 1966 and 1967, when he released the albums of the series “Na Onda ”, on the Odeon record label, which had a dancing rhythm, interpreted radio hit songs and appealed to lovers of instrumental music.

He came from a family of musicians or, more accurately, trombonists. His father and at least two of his brothers continued playing the trombone and his brother Edson, the youngest, participated in recordings of their albums.

With an erudite background, upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro, he became a conductor, arranger, orchestra leader and was the first trombonist of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.

Practically, he played with almost all the great names of Música Popular Brasileira. The selection of songs that make up this compilation contains the following songs:

01. Day tripper;
02. A taste of honey;
03. I feel fine;
04. Yesterday;
05. Michelle;
06. Got to get you in my life;
07. Hey Jude;
08. Get back;
09. Goodbye;
10. Let it be;
11. Money.

SIMPLY ACOUSTIC - CLASSIC MELLOW MOODS - THE BEATLES (2004)

For friends who like the Beatles, extract five tracks, compositions by Lennon & McCartney, from the discs that make up the series "Simply Acoustic - Classic Mellow Moods" and compiled a single disc, posted here.

As for the performers who perform these songs, there is no explicit mention of who they are. By the indication of some musicians contained in the insert of this series, it is deduced that they were studio musicians who did this work.

This series was launched in the United Kingdom in 2004 by the label Union Square Music, with distribution from MCPS. Following are the songs by Lennon & McCartney extracted from the four albums of the series, in box format:

01. Eleanor rigby;
02. Penny lane;
03. Straberry fields forever;
04. A hard day's night;
05. Norwegian wood.

BANDA PLASTICA DE TEPETLIXPA MEXICO - ADIOS A LOS BEATLES (1971)

The album "Adios a Los Beatles" is a curious and eccentric album with versions of some of the successes of the famous British group that, according to the legend, was made as a way of saying goodbye to two of the members of the Beatles, from an unconfirmed visit to the Mexico.

According to reports of the time, the Beatles were incognito in Mexico, to know the priestess María Sabina and, thus, the band of Tepetlixpa wanted to pay tribute to them with this album.

Little is known of this imaginary visit of the Beatles to Mexican lands in 1969, to meet Maria Sabina, the most famous shaman of Mexican mysticism where, it is said, they visited her in Oaxaca. Legend has it that Paul and John, at that time, would have traveled to these places ...!

The “Banda Plastica de Tepetlixpa”, was a band formed by some natives of the city of Tepetlixpa, who recorded this album with 10 cover songs. On the cover, you can see the band with a big sign saying goodbye to the British.

Whatever the story, and if this visit really existed, it's a very eccentric album, no doubt. It is a band, in the style of those that also exist in Portugal, usually based in Recreational Associations, Fire Bands or Philharmonic Bands, with a folk and regional sound, based on saxophones, trumpets, trombones and various percussion instruments of the time, but it is still a sincere, honest and poignant tribute by some Mexican musicians, to the most important and famous English group in the music scene.

On this disc you can hear different, colorful and picturesque versions of classics from the British group, such as Yellow submarine, Yesterday, Hey Jude and Eleanor Rigby, marked by brass and percussion instruments.

The disc was released in Mexico in 1971, by the label Caleidofon. The musical selection is composed of the following songs:

01. Ob-la-di, Ob-la da;
02. I want to hold your hand;
03. Carry that weight;
04. Yesterday;
05. Eleanor rigby;
06. Yellow submarine;
07. Hey Jude;
08. Girl;
09. I should have known better;
10. A hard days night.

JOHN BASILE - PENNY LANE (2015)

When asked about his most important influences, the first two names he mentions are not other guitar players; Frank Sinatra heads the list and then Bill Evans.

Perhaps this explains why John Basile is one of a select group of jazz instrumentalists who doesn’t sound like everyone else. He particularly likes to play in the duo and trio formats to exploit the intimacy those settings present for both player and listener.

Musically, his guitar style utilizes a finger-style technique that approaches the guitar like a piano. For John, the challenge of comping harmonic chord fragments and playing melodies simultaneously provides a backdrop for a more open style of playing and improvising.

His labels, Underhill Jazz and now StringTime Jazz, have produced five innovative and critically distinguished releases: "Amplitudes" - solo guitar improvisations; "No Apologies" - featuring Pat Bianchi on organ and Carmen Intorre on drums for a soulful organ trio with a modern approach to unique standards; "Time Will Reveal" - featuring Joe Locke on vibes and Bassist David Finck showcasing a modern jazz guitar approach to pop tunes;  "Animations" – with John Ambercrombie in duo with Basile exploring the essence of string improvisations of standards and originals; and "It Was A Very Good Year" – an eclectic exploration of jazz, folk, and pop tunes featuring two trios.

Summer 2015 saw the release of "Penny Lane" a jazz guitar collection of Beatles tunes on StringTime Jazz and John's latest is a collection of eclectic originals entitled "Outside/In" available now on iTunes and CD Baby.

Guitar icon Jim Hall said “John Basile’s playing has the essence of great jazz guitar: beautiful tone, marvelous swing, terrific technique, and excellent phrasing.

You can’t ask for more!” Legendary guitarist, John Abercrombie when referring to John's "No Apologies" organ trio project exclaimed, “John’s new CD has one of the most appropriate titles! Great Playing, Great Tunes, Great Sound…"No Apologies" needed!”

John Basile is a formidable, sought after educator and clinician, offering a variety of educational outreach programs to colleges and universities here and around the world.

He also works in the field of radiology and manages a large Medical Group in the NY area and is professional boxing judge with the NYS Athletic Commision. John has judged championship fights at Madison Square Garden, the Barclay center in NY, and in Mexico.
