MANFREDO FEST TRIO - OS SAMBEATLES (1966)

Manfredo Fest foi um instrumentista, compositor e arranjador brasileiro de jazz e de bossa nova. Nasceu no dia 13 de maio de 1938, na cidade de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, e faleceu no dia 08 de outubro de 1999, em Tampa Bay, Florida, EUA.

Era deficiente visual e aprendeu a ler partituras pelo Método Braille. Apreciador do jazz interessou-se, desde cedo, pela música de Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson e George Shearing.

Em Porto Alegre, organizou vários conjuntos, atuando em festas, reuniões e bailes. Em 1961, formou-se como pianista pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Nesse ano, mudou-se para São Paulo, onde conheceu músicos ligados à bossa nova. Em São Paulo, formou o seu primeiro trio, apresentando-se em boates famosas como Baiúca, Hotel Jaraguá e Cabridge Hotel.

Gravou o seu primeiro álbum Long Playing - LP em 1962, incluindo músicas de sua autoria, como Eu sou feliz, com Lili Fest. Nos anos seguintes, gravou mais dois discos, o segundo com canções de Edu Lobo, Durval Ferreira, Baden Powell e Vera Brasil.

Em 1965, registrou em álbum sucessos dos Beatles em ritmo de samba e, no ano seguinte, lançou Alma brasileira. Convidado por Sérgio Mendes, atuou como arranjador e tecladista do grupo Brasil 66. Na gravação desse álbum tributo, a formação do trio era: Manfred Fest (piano), Matias (baixo) e Humberto Guy (bateria)

Fixou residência em Los Angeles (EUA), onde começou a pesquisar uma mistura de jazz brasileiro e samba. Formou um novo trio e participou nos shows de abertura para as apresentações do Brasil 66, gravando vários álbuns produzidos por Sérgio Mendes.

Desligou-se do grupo em 1970. Em seguida, formou novos grupos, entre eles o Batucada. Em 1976, lançou um álbum LP pelo seu próprio selo, que incluiu sua canção Jungle cat. Em 1992, homenageou o pianista Oscar Peterson com a música A blues for Oscar, gravada em álbum independente.

A partir do ano seguinte, começou a gravar pelo selo Concord (EUA), lançando quatro discos em formato Compact Disc - CDs com versões instrumentais de Caminhos cruzados, de Tom Jobim e Newton Mendonça, Passarim, de Tom Jobim, Começar de novo, de Ivan Lins e Vítor Martins, Amazonas, de João Donato, Over the rainbow, de Harold Arlen e Harburg e Summertime, de George e Ira Gershwin e Du Bose Heyward.

Em 1996, fez digressões pela Alemanha e Dinamarca, acompanhado pelo seu filho Phill Fest na guitarra e Hendrik Mevrkens na harmônica, gravando com eles os seus trabalhos mais recentes. Dois anos depois, registrou em CD, ao vivo, a sua apresentação no Vartan Live Jazz, em Denver (Colorado), regravando músicas de sua autoria.

Resgatamos nesta postagem, um álbum lançado no Brasil em 1995, pela gravadora Polygram, de tributos realizados pela turma da famosa gravadora Motown. Tanto que o disco se intitula "Motown Interpretam The Beatles". Esse mesmo disco foi relançado nos USA em 2001, com o título "Motown Meets The Beatles". 

Vale a pena ouví-lo pela qualidade dos intérpretes e principalmente pelos arranjos das releituras das canções do quarteto de Liverpool. Participam deste trabalho a elite da gravadora Motown, tais como, The Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Marving Gaye, Diana Ross, Syreeta, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Gladys knight and The Pips, Jr. Walker e Edwin Starr.

GERRY MARSDEN - A TRIBUTE TO LENNON AND MCCARTNEY - 1995

Gerard "Gerry" Marsden (born 24 September 1942) is an English musician and television personality, best known for being leader of the British Merseybeat band Gerry and the Pacemakers.

Marsden was born at 8 Menzies Street, Toxteth, Liverpool, Merseyside, and his interest in music began at an early age. He remembers standing on top of an air raid shelter singing Ragtime Cowboy Joe and getting a great reception from onlookers. He said to himself then, "This is what I want to do".

Gerry and the Pacemakers was the second group signed by Brian Epstein and remained among his favorite artists. Their first single was How Do You Do It, recommended by George Martin after it was initially given to the Beatles. This was the first number one hit for the Pacemakers. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and was released on EMI's Columbia label. Marsden said the recording took four or five takes. The group's second number one was I Like it, followed by You'll Never Walk Alone. Other singles included It's Gonna Be Alright, I'm the One, Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying, and Ferry Cross the Mersey.

After leaving the Pacemakers – his brother Fred Marsden, Les Maguire and Les Chadwick—Gerry Marsden maintained a low-key career on television, and starred in the West End musical Charlie Girl alongside Derek Nimmo and Anna Neagle.

He is most remembered for the song I Like It and his rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, which has been adopted as an anthem of several football clubs, the most notable being Liverpool, the club that Marsden supports. He sang the song at Wembley Stadium when Everton faced Liverpool at the 1989 F.A. Cup final shortly after the Hillsborough disaster. Marsden is a vocal Everton FC supporter and almost goes to every game on Goodison.

The Pacemakers, albeit with different musicians, still tour today and are a popular oldies draw on the circuit.

Marsden returned to No. 1 in the charts twice during the 1980s with re-recordings of two of his old hits, with all profits going to charity. In 1985 after the Bradford Football Club stadium tragedy in which 56 were killed, he formed a group called "The Crowd", which included other musicians, singers and radio disc jockeys, to produce a new version of You'll Never Walk Alone.

On 18 April, three days after the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool F.C. fans ultimately died as a result of their injuries, he joined forces with Paul McCartney, the Christians, Holly Johnson and his production trio Stock, Aitken & Waterman on a new version of Ferry Cross the Mersey.

Marsden's favorite recordings are Ferry Cross the Mersey, Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying  and You'll Never Walk Alone. In 1993, Marsden published his autobiography, “I'll Never Walk Alone”, co-written with former Melody Maker editor Ray Coleman.

As of 2013, he still performs a few hundred shows a year to various audiences worldwide, mostly in the UK. During 2013, he will take part in a 50th Anniversary Farewell Tour in Australia, the US and Canada.

In this post we present a reinterpretation of classic Beatles songs in orchestral arrangements. The album was released in Canada in 1994 by GMS Productions.

At first I thought it was a studio orchestra. However, according to the friend Sergej Randelovic, Simon Gale is Joze Privsek. Sloveninan composer and conducter. The orchestra is Plesni Orkester RTV Ljubljana. Joze is alson known as Jeff Conway.

The album consists of the following songs in medley format:

4. Norwegian wood / The fool on the hill;
